Dr. Claudia Amendola is a licensed clinical psychologist in Virginia. Dr. Amendola obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at George Washington University in Washington, DC. She received her Master of Psychology (M.Psy.) and Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degrees in clinical psychology at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. as well. She completed her predoctoral psychology internship at the APA-accredited program at Pacific Clinics in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Amendola has been trained in a variety of mental health settings including inpatient, outpatient, substance abuse, community mental health, high school, and private practice. Dr. Amendola provides psychotherapy to adolescents and adults presenting with a wide range of mental health concerns. Specifically, she works with individuals experiencing the effects of trauma, diversity issues, and chronic health issues. Dr. Amendola utilizes an integrative approach and has been trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and relational therapy. She places a high value on authenticity, empathy, and safety, and will strive to work towards a clear goal to improve well-being. In addition to working together toward reducing maladaptive behaviors and thoughts, Dr. Amendola tailors each treatment to an individual’s particular needs and goals. In doing so, increasing effectiveness and building the necessary trust to maintain a therapeutic and beneficial relationship.
As someone who is a daughter of immigrants, and managing the autoimmune condition of Crohn’s disease, she wishes to use her personal experiences in a way to better assist those who struggle with identity and health concerns. Dr. Amendola is also fluent in Spanish.
