Dr. Daniela Sosa-Sarkar, Psy.D

Dr. Daniela Sosa-Sarkar is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as a Licensed Psychologist in Caracas, Venezuela. She received her degree and license in psychology from the Venezuelan Catholic University in 1996 and obtained her Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology in 2000.

Dr. Sosa-Sarkar has years of experience working/training in different settings: hospitals, psychiatric emergency services, community mental health centers, and private practice. She has also worked as a teacher at the Catholic University in Venezuela, developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Violence and Trauma as well as Cognitive Behavioral Interventions.

Dr. Sosa-Sarkar understands therapeutic treatment as a collaborative effort that includes an in-depth – developmentally and contextually informed – understanding of the individual’s needs and the establishment of clear treatment goals. Individual strengths are the treatment foundation for the development of new emotional, cognitive and behavioral skills to promote the desired therapeutic objectives. She believes that people are doing the best they can despite their emotional and behavioral struggles, and as such therapy is framed as a safe non-judgmental environment that accepts and validates the client’s reality while simultaneously promoting the need for psychological awareness and transformational change.

She specializes in individual psychotherapy for late adolescents and adults. Her clinical focus is in trauma and stress related disorders, as well as mood, anxiety and behavioral disorders. Her training and professional practice integrates multiple modalities of interventions in order to tailor treatment plans that address the unique needs of the client, with special emphasis on evidenced based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral interventions.

Personal and professional experiences have provided her with a profound sensitivity and respect towards individual differences and the development of client centered treatment plans that incorporate such differences and capitalize on the uniqueness and strengths of the individual’s cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Sosa-Sarkar performs bariatric surgery, immigration and pre-employment evaluations.

Dr. Sosa-Sarkar was born and raised in Caracas Venezuela. She relocated to the United States in 2002. She lived in Miami, Florida for over 7 years. In 2010 she moved to Virginia, where she lives with her family. She is a fluent Spanish speaker.
