Debra Japzon Gillum, Ph.D.

Dr. Debra Japzon Gillum is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia, North Carolina, and New York. She received her B.A. in Psychology from Catholic University in Washington, DC. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from University of Denver in 1989.Dr. Gillum has been providing behavioral health services to children and families for over 25 years. She has worked in a variety of settings, to include outpatient mental health, primary care, schools, and on US military installations in Germany and South Korea. Dr. Gillum’s primary focus is on child behavioral health problems and corresponding family therapy. Her training and education primarily have been from a cognitive-behavioral perspective. She works with children of all ages presenting with a wide range of mental health concerns.Dr. Gillum has a great deal of experience with autism spectrum disorders in toddlers to young adults. She performs autism diagnostic evaluations, and psychotherapy to address the full range of issues affecting individuals and families experiencing autism spectrum difficulties. She has been involved in the autism community for the last 20 years as a parent, behavioral health provider, volunteer, and board member for both a local autism society and special education parent council.Although she is an established child therapist, another area of interest for Dr. Gillum is treatment of PTSD in adult women. She uses an evidence-based therapeutic approach, called Cognitive Processing Therapy.Dr. Gillum was born and raised in Western Maryland and now lives in the Northern VA area with her family. She has been a proud member of a military family for many years.
