Ms. Ricco Nancy Julia (she goes by Nancy) has been a licensed professional counselor since 2009 and a National Board of Clinical Counselors(NBCC) certified clinical mental health counselor (CCMHC). Ms. Julia is licensed in 12 other states (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin). Ms. Julia has worked in inpatient and outpatient treatment programs and provided individual therapy, couples/marriage therapy, and group therapy. She is familiar with a multidisciplinary clinical environment.

Ms. Julia mostly worked with adults with anxiety (generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder), depression, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, symptom management of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder with medications, relational problems (marriage, couple, divorce), anger management, stress management, improving communication, increase self-esteem and confidence, and establishing and exploring healthy coping strategies. Also, Ms. Julia is experienced in helping grief and loss (including miscarriage and stillbirth), phase of life problems/adjustment issues (including injuries), Eastern philosophy, burn-out, law enforcement, correctional officers/staff, military, incarceration/criminal justice-related issues, risk assessment, mid-life crisis, athletic and sports related mental health issues, and cultural issues. Ms. Julia values cultural humility. Currently, Ms. Julia is working on her Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology to be a licensed psychologist. She is starting her practicum at Neuropsychology Associates of Fairfax. She is interested in neuropsychology assessment and dementia assessment and treatment.

Ms. Julia’s therapy orientation, which is the foundation of her therapy approach, is existential psychotherapy concepts. She explores clients’ worldviews to find meanings and purpose and gain new insights; as a tool and strategy, she helps clients with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT, DBT, ACT) and a motivational interviewing approach. Ms. Julia can also utilize trauma informed care and the solution-focused brief psychotherapy approach depending on the clients’ needs.
